Research on the benefits of UBBIO deer velvet is conducted by Velvet Antler Research New Zealand Ltd, a joint venture between the New Zealand deer industry and AgResearch Invermay.
Velvet Antler Research New Zealand Ltd began by studying production related issues, then moved into compositional analyses of New Zealand and other velvet antler. In about 1997 work on the health benefits of velvet began and has continued since.
